Upcoming:
April 21st, Dieter Bimberg, Plenary Speaker, Porto, Portugal, Laser Optics and Photonics World Forum, “Novel VCSEL Designs for next generation of photonics systems”
Professor Dieter Bimberg, director of Bimberg Chinese-German Center for Green Photonics at Changchun Institute of Optics, Fine Mechanics and Physics (CIOMP), was awarded the 2020 Stern-Gerlach Medal, the highest award for experimental physics by the German Physical Society.
The German Physical Society selected the 2020 awards on the "Physics Day" on Nov 14th 2019, including the Stern-Gerlach Medal in gold. The Stern-Gerlach Medal is the highest award in experimental physics by the German Physical Society. Professor Bimberg was voted to receive the 2020 Stern-Gerlach Medal to “honor his pioneering work on the Physics of Semiconductor Nanostructures and Nanophotonic and -electronics devives based there upon”.
Professor Bimberg is the world-wide pioneer in the field of semiconductor nanostructures. His work stands for outstanding discoveries on their growth and electronic structure. Based on his development of innovative measurement technologies, he was the first to observe their exceptional electronic, optical and electrical properties. Based on these fundamental discoveries, he developed many novel concepts for photonic and electronic devices, including devices that are improving largely the energy efficiency of the internet.
The award ceremony will be held at the 84th Annual Meeting of the German Physical Society in Bonn March 2020.
